Which Case Fits Your AirPods? The Complete Fit Guide (1, 2, 3, Pro & Pro 2)
The number one reason AirPods cases get returned: wrong generation. Apple has shipped five differently-shaped charging cases, and a case moulded for one rarely fits another. Two minutes of checking saves you a swap.
First, find your generation
The fastest way: on your iPhone, open Settings → Bluetooth, tap the ⓘ next to your AirPods, and check the model name. Or eyeball it:
- AirPods 1 & 2 — tall, narrow case with a vertical lid. The two generations share a nearly identical shell, so most cases fit both.
- AirPods 3 — shorter, wider case, lid opens the same way. Closer in shape to the Pro case than to 1/2.
- AirPods Pro — wide, squat case. Distinctly broader than 1/2.
- AirPods Pro 2 — same silhouette as Pro, but adds a lanyard loop on the side and speaker holes on the bottom. Cases made for the original Pro often block these.
What a good case never blocks
Whatever the style, check that the case leaves these accessible: the charging port, the pairing button on the back, the front status light, and — for Pro 2 — the bottom speaker (that's where your Find My pings come from).
